Paradise Circus is a book by artist Cathy Wade emerging from ongoing research into relations between gender and experiences of architecture.
Wade explores the remnants of Birmingham’s inner ring road and the embodied knowledge of womxn in navigating the city in the present. This investigation of lived space took its first form as the work For the Car, for the Body (digital video, field recordings, photo documentation, re-narration of Paradise Circus and internet searches) in 2017, revealing a continuum from the past to the present in how the city is experienced and designed that still refutes womxn’s experiences.
